Lampworking is the centuries'-old art of melting glass through a flame to create, in this case, tiny works of wearable art. I use mainly Italian Moretti glass and never duplicate a piece exactly. I have come to think of my jewelry as one-of-a-kind works of art...each one special and each one an individual.
Five years ago lampworking found me. I took a week-long class at Snow Farm (.org) and had the good fortune to have Nancy Tobey as my teacher/mentor. Since then I have taken classes from several prominent artists.
This hobby-turned-passion has culminated in the creation of my business, Glassy Beads at 175 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY 12305, 518-393-5011. Jay Street is a quaint little pedestrian-only street in the heart of our beautiful, re-vitalized downtown. Custom work is welcome. If you don't see exactly what you want, I'll be glad to work with you to create that special piece.
I am currently giving lessons in my studio as well as home parties. Please call for details.
My work is in several fine art shops and I am a member of the International Society of Glass Beads/Boston Chapter.
You are heartily invited to come watch me work. Prepare to be mesmerized.
I hope you enjoy my beads as much as I do making them.
